Racial and talent overhaul beta update

Published: 48 changes

Racial rework, raid-wide buffs, Arcane Wrath and Frost Blast, Elemental and Shadow talent reshuffles, standing-still wands and Auto Shot, a Horde-hostile Dalaran, and interface and gamepad updates.

General

  • Wands and the Hunter's Auto Shot now require standing still for 0.5 seconds before firing, as in early World of Warcraft; Auto Shot still fires while casting Aimed Shot or Sniper Shot.
  • Battle Shout, Trueshot Aura, Moonkin Aura, Leader of the Pack and the Grace of Air, Strength of Earth, Windfury and Flametongue Totems now affect the whole raid.

Racials

  • Weapon racials are replaced: Human Sword Specialization becomes Ruthless (2% critical strike chance), Orc Axe Specialization becomes Savage (1% critical strike chance) and Dwarf Mace Specialization becomes Earth Fury (2% critical damage and healing).
  • Tauren: Endurance grants 2% critical damage and healing instead of 1% hit; Plainsrunning adds 3% mounted speed but needs real movement to stay active; Cultivation's cooldown drops to 15 minutes (was 60) and War Stomp's to 90 seconds (was 2 minutes).
  • Orc Blood Fury's cooldown rises to 3 minutes (was 2); Shatter Curse now dispels Curses and Banes and reduces magic damage taken by 5% (was immunity and 15%). Dwarven Find Treasure can also find extra items in most chests.
  • Skyborne: Wind Blessed haste rises to 3% (was 1%); Skysight and Read Leyline can be cast while moving, Read Leyline lasts at least 30 seconds (was 20) and Walk on Air's cooldown drops to 90 seconds. Elemental Convergences and Leylines spawn in more places in most zones.
  • Undead Touch of the Grave procs more consistently: 30% chance for casters and 20% for Paladins, Rogues and Warriors, with a 25-second internal cooldown and no Shadow damage scaling. Will of the Forsaken is unavailable while under Scatter Shot.
  • Gnome Eureka! is now an 8-second buff without charges that also benefits Power Word: Shield; Night Elf Quickness stacks with other movement speed bonuses; Troll Regeneration bonuses rise to 20% (was 10%).

Classes— Druid

  • Moonkin Aura now only raises spell critical strike chance and Leader of the Pack only melee and ranged critical strike chance; Furor keeps the Energy you had in Cat Form when you shift into Bear or Dire Bear Form.
  • Faerie Fire generates threat in Bear and Dire Bear Form and can no longer trigger Omen of Clarity in feral forms; Shred Rank 1 is learned at level 20 (was 22). Rejuvenation ranks no longer block other Druids, and stacked Insect Swarms no longer keep lowering hit chance.

Classes— Hunter

  • Fire traps scale with Attack Power, and one Fire Trap and one Ice Trap can be active at once (was one trap in total); pets benefit from Expertise and inherit the higher of your melee or ranged critical strike chance.
  • Pet abilities are toned down: Dismember reduces healing by 25% for 6 seconds on a 15-second cooldown (was 50%, 10 sec, 6 sec); Sonic Blast slows casting by 30% for 20 seconds on a 60-second cooldown (was 60%, 30 sec, 30 sec); Mine! lasts 3 seconds on a 90-second cooldown (was 4 sec, 60 sec).

Talents— Hunter

  • Resourcefulness triggers only on melee and ranged ability critical strikes and reduces Strider Kick's cost, which now works while disarmed; Improved Mend Pet lowers Mend Pet's Mana cost as intended, and Summon Hawk spawns at and sticks to its target.

Classes— Mage

  • New spell Frost Blast (level 24): a 1.5-second cast that deals damage and slows the target by 40%, benefits from Frostbolt talents and takes over the role of down-ranked Frostbolt at a higher Mana cost.
  • Clearcasting no longer rolls once per target hit or triggers from Dampen Magic, Amplify Magic or out-of-combat casts; Frost Channeling now reduces threat.

Talents— Mage

  • Arcane Blast is redesigned: a 1.5-second cast whose stacks grant 15% of Intellect as spell damage for 15 seconds (up to 4), with damage and coefficient 40% lower. New 16-point talent Arcane Wrath: 3.5-second cast, Fireball-like damage plus spell power equal to 5% of maximum Mana, 6-second cooldown.
  • Missile Barrage moves to the first Arcane row with 2 ranks and can also be triggered by Arcane Missiles hits; Presence of Mind is again consumed by spell casts.
  • Fire: Wake of Fire reverts to Improved Fire Blast (+8/15 yards Fire Blast range); Critical Mass goes up to 5 ranks for 10% critical strike chance; Fire Power becomes a 3-rank talent giving 1/2/3% Fire damage per Fire effect on the target, up to 12%.
  • Heating Up gains an extra charge from every Fire Blast and is no longer consumed when Presence of Mind empowers the Pyroblast.
  • Frost: Winter's Chill no longer raises critical chance; each stack (up to 5) instead increases your next Cone of Cold's damage by 40%. Ice Lance deals 200% extra damage to frozen targets (was 300%), and Cone of Cold slows its first 4 targets by an extra 10% for 3 more seconds.

Classes— Paladin

  • Blessing of Salvation and Greater Blessing of Salvation become Salvation and Mass Salvation, which no longer exclude other blessings; Paladins also learn Revoke to remove Salvation from a party or raid member.
  • Consecration's coefficient per tick drops to 0.042 (was 0.095), Righteous Fury's Holy threat rises to 90% (was 60%), and Seal of Righteousness and its Judgement use corrected spell damage coefficients; Seal of Fury Rank 3 trains at level 26.

Talents— Paladin

  • Shield Specialization restores 4% Mana (was 6%); Reckoning stores up to 4 charges that all trigger on your next melee swing; Champion of the Light grants 10/20/30% of Intellect as spell damage (was 20/40/60%), and Sanctified Judgement's Mana no longer generates threat.

Classes— Priest

  • Devouring Plague's cooldown drops to 24 seconds (was 1 minute) and Shadow Word: Death's rises to 18 seconds (was 12); Vampiric Embrace can't be resisted and has a 30-second cooldown (was 1 minute).
  • Renew ranks no longer block other Priests, Holy Fire Rank 5 no longer out-damages Rank 6 over time, and Twin Disciplines benefits Shadow Word: Death, Mind Flay, Starshards and Penance.

Talents— Priest

  • Discipline: Mental Strength moves to row 2 and grants 2–10% Intellect; Improved Power Word: Shield moves to row 3; Power in Light boosts Smite and Penance against targets with Holy Fire or Shadow Word: Pain, and Silent Resolve reduces threat from all spells.
  • Shadow: Shadow Affinity and Improved Fade are removed and Improved Mind Blast moves to row 2. New row-4 talent Dark Inspiration: Mind Blast and fully channeled Mind Flay raise your party's Spirit by 3–15% for 10 seconds.
  • Improved Mind Flay makes each Mind Flay tick deal 10/20% more than the previous one, and Devouring Contagion spreads to 2 targets.

Classes— Rogue

  • Poisons no longer activate against targets attacking the Rogue, Sap no longer triggers weapon procs, and Cold Blood is consumed when Mutilate lands a critical strike.

Classes— Shaman

  • Chain Lightning costs about 35% less Mana; Fire Nova's base damage and Mana cost are cut significantly and its coefficient drops to 0.143 (was 0.214); Stormstrike costs 8% of base Mana (was a flat 125).
  • Grace of Air Totem no longer excludes Windfury and Flametongue Totems (which still exclude each other); Mana Tide Totem gains a rank at level 38, and Totemic Recall's training cost is fixed at 22 silver.

Talents— Shaman

  • Elemental Mastery returns as the 31-point talent: for 15 seconds Lightning Bolt and Lava Burst cast 0.5 seconds faster and Chain Lightning has no cooldown (3-minute cooldown). Lava Burst becomes the 21-point talent with a fourth rank, Earthbound the 16-point talent, and Call of Thunder is removed.
  • Elemental Alacrity and Elemental Warding swap rows; Lightning Overload now requires Elemental Alacrity and Elemental Fury requires Lightning Overload. Call of Flame extends Flame Shock by 3/6/9 seconds, Elemental Reach cuts Totemic Projection's cooldown by 10/20 seconds, and Improved Fire Nova is renamed Trial by Fire.
  • Restoration: Tidal Focus and Totemic Focus swap rows, Water Shield triggers from any spell critical strike, and Restorative Totems improves all of Healing Stream Totem.

Talents— Warlock

  • Malediction is replaced by Grim Reach (+10/20% Affliction spell range), Destructive Reach now extends Destruction spell range by 10/20%, and Shadow Mastery grants 2/4/6/8/10% Shadow damage (was 1–5%).

Classes— Warlock

  • Soul Link can be cast on your pet again, Summon Incubus no longer skips its Soul Shard cost with the Reagent Economy Legacy perk, and Curse of Recklessness can no longer be applied twice to one target.

Classes— Warrior

  • Slam is no longer subject to spell pushback, Overpower works against much lower-level enemies, Lingering Rage no longer stops Health regeneration after combat, and Improved Berserker Rage removes movement-impairing effects.

Talents

  • Legacy: Bartering no longer discounts training and repairs, the Master Chef and Luremaster perks move one column left (visual only), and The Quick and the Dead affects more Priest spells.

Items

  • Scrolls now trigger the global cooldown, many crafted items sell to vendors for less, and Draught of Predatory Senses becomes a Potion on the combat potion cooldown with a shorter duration.
  • Mystic Mushroom and the Insight enchant correctly increase Spirit, and Morbent's Bane no longer plays visual effects on nearby players.

PvP

  • Battleground Marks of Honor stack to 30 (was 20).

Dungeons & Raids

  • Horde players are attacked on sight in Dalaran and can no longer gain Kirin Tor reputation; the City of Dalaran dungeon stays accessible, but the Dalaran Sewer Key quest line no longer grants open-world access.
  • Quest fixes: more Bloodtooth Guards for Raene's Cleansing, reliable furbolg camp credit in Darkshore, The Attack! in Stormwind is shareable and no longer an escort, and Wetlands Dragonmaw Orcs, Gnolls and Incendicite Ore respawn faster.

User Interface

  • A new tutorial experience is added for new players, unit frames and the minimap header are updated, and level-up messages again show stat increases and talent points gained.
  • Options gain a Bloom Intensity slider under Advanced graphics, an Auto Attack/Auto Shot switch for Hunters (also on gamepad) and detailed Scrolling Combat Text settings; the Who list searches subzones.
  • Auction House shows an equippable level column and suffix item stats, the Cooldown Manager merges spell ranks into one entry, and nameplate visibility above and below the player is reduced (your target is unaffected).
  • Gamepad: a swing timer on the center reticle, plus gamepad support for trade, guild and communities, chat channels, transmog and ground-targeted items.

Bug Fixes

  • Creatures regenerate Health out of combat again, bright fog at low shadow settings is fixed, and drink tooltips show the correct total Mana regeneration.

The title says October 15; the official post was published October 16 UTC and does not state a client build. It describes the Winter's Chill redesign twice with different numbers; the summary follows the version the beta client implements (40% Cone of Cold damage per stack).

Dalaran and Legacy beta update

Published: 29 changes

Dalaran testing, dungeon experience, Legacy respecs, Rage calculations, class balance, PvP criticals, and item/interface corrections.

Dungeons & Raids

  • Dalaran opens; dungeon kill XP increases approximately 20%.

Talents

  • Beta testers receive 16 Legacy points; minimum Legacy respec costs 1 silver.
  • During beta, Legacy respecs start at 1 silver and their cost decreases by one respec step per hour.
Show more · 26 changes

General

  • Rage from incoming hits uses expected creature Health rather than player Health, includes critical/crushing multipliers, and ignores absorbs; armor assumptions are retuned from 50% to 20–40% by level.
  • Dungeon kills award approximately 20% more experience; lower-level-party penalties use each player’s own level, while vastly overleveled party members still prevent experience gains.
  • Multiple weapon swaps can occur within one global cooldown, including two-handed to sword-and-shield macros; empty-loot creatures remain interactable again.
  • Desolace’s new Gelkis/Magram quests require level 35 instead of 30; their rewards are retuned, with matching level-35 equip requirements announced for a later hotfix.

Classes— Druid

  • Bear and Dire Bear threat bonuses rise from 30% to 50%; critical strikes grant 100% extra Rage instead of 75%.
  • Mana Potions work in Bear/Dire Bear/Cat Form; Cat Form no longer reduces maximum Health and Demoralizing Roar correctly generates threat.
  • Thorns returns to Vanilla base damage with a 6% spell-power coefficient instead of 13.3%; Wrath ranks 1–5 receive smoother damage progression.
  • Effects that override Druid forms more closely match Classic: only transformations with another benefit still apply, such as Noggenfogger Elixir's underwater breathing.

Talents— Druid

  • Predatory Instincts is renamed Natural Instinct and also adds healing equal to 12/25% of Intellect; Shifting Power cannot be used at full Energy and Thick Hide properly updates equipped gear in forms.

Classes— Hunter

  • Disengage’s intended doubled threat reduction is implemented; recurring low-health pet Health gains and Unleashed Fury’s pet-damage bonus are fixed.

Talents— Hunter

  • Expose Prey lasts 10 seconds instead of 5; Entrapment obeys diminishing returns and triggers only on initial Frost Trap activation, not its periodic effect.
  • Improved Concussive Shot and Improved Wing Clip use correct proc chances; substantially downranked Wing Clip has a reduced activation chance.

Classes— Mage

  • Impact no longer procs from Flamestrike’s periodic damage; Frostbolt/Fireball ranks 1–5 and Arcane Missiles ranks 1–3 receive consistent rank progression.

Classes— Paladin

  • Retribution Aura uses the casting Paladin’s spell power, restores Vanilla base damage (approximately 33% lower), and changes its coefficient from 13.3% to 6%.
  • Reckoning has a 1.5-second trigger cooldown; Seal of Fury restores Mana only with its Improved talent, and that talent/Shield Specialization’s Mana returns no longer generate threat.

Classes— Priest

  • Penance damage/healing is recalculated for its actual 2-second channel instead of 3; rank-1 Mana cost rises 50%, and healing at ranks 2 and 4 increases. Smite and Lesser Heal/Heal rank progression is smoothed.

Classes— Shaman

  • Flametongue Totem uses shapeshifted attack speed; Fire Nova no longer immediately consumes its Elemental Focus proc. Water Shield’s tooltip shows correct Mana and removes a nonexistent 15-second cooldown.

Classes— Warlock

  • Existing pets are stunned while summoning a replacement; Shadow Bolt ranks 1–4 progress consistently, and Demonic Brand’s pet-damage threat increase applies only to Shadow damage.

Classes— Warrior

  • Demoralizing Shout correctly generates threat; Deep Wounds is again required to reach Impale, rolls its periodic damage, and removes unintended Attack Power scaling. Last Stand correctly increases Health.

Items

  • Wolfshead Helm adds 5 Energy when Shifting Power is used, with its Rage effect unchanged; Revelation’s enchant buff persists through Druid and Ghost Wolf forms.
  • Several dungeon quest rewards change from Rare to Uncommon with adjusted stats; Truthseeker’s Bow requires level 40, and Discolored Healing Potion damage no longer breaks crowd control.

PvP

  • PvP critical strikes regain full effectiveness; Shipwreck Cove’s capture-point location is corrected.

Professions

  • Attack Power armor kits stop granting double Ranged Attack Power; Enchant Weapon – Recovery works for shapeshifted Druids.
  • Enchanting-made wands and Minor Wizard Oil get new vendor prices from 5c to 25s; the Peace Tea recipe now sells for 10c.

Racials

  • Will of the Forsaken can correctly be used while asleep or charmed.

User Interface

  • Cooldown Manager supports every class, racial ability, and trinket; consumables remain planned. View Talents is added to Inspect, quest types/level requirements are displayed, and Discord Voice can be selected for parties.

Warrior beta talent update

Published: 7 changes

Fury and Protection receive a progression pass.

Classes— Warrior

  • Bonus Rage from critical strikes rises to 100% (previously 75%); Bloodthirst scales with 45% Attack Power (previously 35%).
  • Berserker Rage is available at level 30 instead of 32; Blood Craze stops activating from Bloodthirst casts and Dual Wield Specialization no longer grants hit chance.

Talents— Warrior

  • Booming Voice adds 10/20/30/40/50% Shout area and reduces Rage costs by 5/10/15/20/25%; Unbridled Wrath loses its doubled Rage for two-handed weapons.
  • Lingering Rage appears in Fury row 2, delaying out-of-combat Rage decay by 2/4/6/8/10 seconds; Furious Precision in row 3 adds 4/7/10% off-hand hit.
  • Improved Cleave and Boundless Rage are removed; Raging Blows reduces Cleave/Whirlwind costs by 3 Rage, and Whirlwind always attacks with both weapons.
  • Flurry requires Death Wish instead of Enrage. Gore Drinker in row 6 requires Enrage and makes Enrage, Berserker Rage, Bloodrage, Death Wish, and Bloodthirst heal the next three melee attacks for 0.5/1% maximum Health each.
  • Improved Berserker Rage moves to Fury row 5; Iron Will/Improved Bloodrage move to Protection row 1, Anticipation/Improved Revenge to row 2, Improved Disarm to row 3, and Improved Shield Bash to row 4. Toughness is removed.

These additions were appended to the October 1 development notes and are listed once, under this separate official class post.

Dungeons & Raids

  • Excavation Site: Wetlands opens for levels 26–31.
Show more · 15 changes

Classes— Druid

  • Critical strikes grant 75% extra Rage; Swipe scales with 3% Attack Power, and Faerie Fire no longer resets the melee swing timer.
  • Shifting Power has a 16-second cooldown and converts 55% base Mana into 40 Energy; Improved Shifting Power reduces the cooldown by 4/8 seconds and shapeshift cost reductions apply.
  • Tiger’s Fury and King of the Jungle are removed; forms prevent new Disarms but do not clear an existing Disarm, and Primal Bite generates roughly twice its previous threat.

Classes— Hunter

  • Sniper Shot reaches 45 yards and adds 10 yards to the next three shots within 10 seconds; Deflection’s parry bonus becomes 1/2/3/4/5% instead of 2/4/6/8/10%. Aggressive pet mode returns.

Classes— Mage

  • Hot Streak is renamed Heating Up; Combustion has three charges instead of four. Scorch Vulnerability and Winter’s Chill no longer require a second resistance check.

Classes— Priest

  • Devouring Plague can critically strike; Shadow Word: Death’s Early Demise only works below its Health threshold, Inner Focus does not boost periodic critical chance, and Shadow Weaving always applies its debuff.

Classes— Rogue

  • Missed Expose Armor preserves Combo Points; Setup awards them only when dodging or resisting attacks from the current target.

Classes— Shaman

  • Disease Cleansing Totem lasts 5 minutes; Totemic Recall correctly refunds Mana.

Classes— Warlock

  • Hellfire can critically strike; Soul Harvest correctly permits 50/100% in-combat Mana regeneration, and pets regain Aggressive mode.

Classes— Warrior

  • Basic-attack criticals initially generate 75% extra Rage in this build; Heroic Strike queuing no longer improves off-hand hit chance, and Spearing Strike requires Battle Stance but no longer a two-handed weapon.

PvP

  • Most PvP gear and upgrade-token Honor prices rise approximately 50%; the Honor cap increases from 15,000 to 25,000.

Professions

  • Dungeon-drop Blacksmithing/Leatherworking recipes become available; skinning works once per creature again and starter areas have fewer Poor Copper Veins.

Racials

  • Eureka! no longer benefits periodic effects; channels are explicitly excluded from that restriction. Cannibalize cannot be used while immune to Physical damage.

User Interface

  • Spell-damage/healing tooltips explain that substantially downranked spells lose scaling and talent proc chance; rank-1 Frostbolt at level 60 has no Frostbite proc chance.

Classes— Hunter

  • Furious Howl’s Attack Power bonus falls 40%; Strider Kick adds 30% movement speed for 3 seconds, Lacerating Strikes can crit, and leaving Lone Wolf no longer imposes a 4% damage penalty with a pet.

  • Renew can critically heal; Power Word: Shield overwrites existing shields without Weakened Soul, Starshards benefits from Twilight Focus pushback protection, and Dark Sacrifice no longer breaks damage-sensitive crowd control.

Classes— Rogue
