WoW Forever Warrior Rework: New Fury Talents and a Reshaped Protection Tree
Blizzard gave Warriors their own update in the WoW Forever beta on October 2: three new Fury talents, two removed, Flurry tied to Death Wish, a Protection tree reordered for players without a shield, and more Rage from critical strikes. Later builds fixed how Warriors gain Rage from damage taken.

Why Fury changed
The update started with a bug: Dual Wield Specialization was giving its hit chance to both weapons instead of only the off-hand. Because the bug had skewed Blizzard's own tests, it did another pass on the whole Fury tree. Its stated goal was to give Fury more utility and real choices early in the tree for leveling, and to stop forcing points into Enrage just to reach Flurry.
Two baseline changes came with it:
Berserker Rage is available at level 30 instead of 32, and
Bloodthirst scales with 45% of your Attack Power (was 35%).
Fury talents, old and new
| Talent | Change |
|---|---|
| New, row 2: your Rage starts decaying 2–10 seconds later after you leave combat. | |
| New, row 3: +4/7/10% chance to hit with off-hand attacks. | |
| New, row 6, requires Enrage: Enrage, Berserker Rage, Bloodrage, Death Wish and Bloodthirst make your next three melee attacks restore 0.5/1% of your maximum health each. | |
| Shouts cover 10–50% more area and cost 5–25% less Rage. | |
| Now requires Death Wish instead of Enrage. | |
| Cleave and Whirlwind cost 3 less Rage. | |
| No longer generates double Rage with two-handed weapons. | |
| No longer adds hit chance to your off-hand attacks. | |
| No longer triggers from Bloodthirst casts. | |
| Moves from row 6 to row 5. | |
| Improved Cleave, Boundless Rage | Removed. |
Protection opens up for players without a shield
Blizzard reordered the top of Protection so that players without a shield have a clear path to the middle of the tree, for example as a PvP secondary spec with Improved Bloodrage, Iron Will, Improved Disarm, Last Stand and Improved Shield Bash.
Iron Will moves to Protection row 1 (it was in Fury row 2), and
Improved Bloodrage moves up to row 1.
Anticipation and
Improved Revenge move to row 2.
Improved Disarm moves to row 3 and
Improved Shield Bash to row 4.- Toughness is removed.
More Rage from critical strikes and from taking damage
Critical strikes now generate 100% more Rage instead of 75%. The October 8 build then fixed several bugs in how Rage is gained from taking damage, and Blizzard expects the typical Warrior or Druid to gain more Rage as a result:
- Rage is calculated from an expected creature's health instead of yours, so stacking Stamina no longer reduces the Rage you get.
- Critical hits and crushing blows taken now count at their full increased damage.
- Damage absorbed by shields is ignored, as if no absorb were active.
- Rage was balanced around Warriors having 50% armor, a tank's value. It now assumes 20–40% depending on level, which suits questing Warriors.
Fixes in the October 8 and 15 builds
- Deep Wounds is required for Impale again, and it no longer scales with Attack Power; it remains a rolling damage-over-time effect.
- Demoralizing Shout now generates threat, and Last Stand grants the right amount of health.
- Slam is no longer pushed back by damage, and Overpower works against much lower-level enemies.
- Lingering Rage no longer stops health regeneration after combat, and Improved Berserker Rage now removes movement-impairing effects.
- Battle Shout now affects the whole raid instead of only your party; see WoW Forever Beta: Racials Reworked and Group Buffs Go Raid-Wide.
What Warriors should do
- Rebuild Fury and Protection in the Warrior talent calculator. Builds from before October 2 may still spend points in Improved Cleave, Boundless Rage or Toughness, which no longer exist.
- Plan for Flurry through Death Wish. Enrage is now optional, and taking it opens Gore Drinker instead.
- Dual-wielders: take Furious Precision. Dual Wield Specialization no longer adds any hit chance.
