Druid Class Guide — Class Guides · WoW Classic

A leather-wearing shapeshifter who heals in caster form, tanks in Bear Form, deals melee damage in Cat Form, and casts Balance spells. Druids can fill any role in a group.

How the druid plays

Druids are shapeshifters: they tank in Bear Form, deal melee damage in Cat Form, cast as a Moonkin or heal in caster form. Each form has its own resource: Rage for bears, Energy and combo points for cats, mana for casting. Shifting costs mana and breaks roots and slows, which makes druids slippery against players.

In Classic most raid druids heal: Restoration brings Innervate, Rebirth (the only resurrection in combat) and strong healing over time. Feral druids tank and off-tank in dungeons and raids, and Balance is a niche choice played for the Moonkin aura.

Druids level well in Cat Form with Prowl, switching to Bear Form for tougher fights, and Travel Form from level 30 gives fast movement long before a mount.

Strengths and weaknesses

  • Innervate and Rebirth are unique raid tools.
  • Shapeshifting breaks roots and slows; Travel Form and Aquatic Form for movement.

Weaknesses

  • Jack of all trades: each role trails the pure classes in Classic.
  • Gear for several roles fills your bags.
  • Shifting in and out of forms costs mana.

Specializations

The specs compared

Each spec rated from 1 to 5 at what it does in WoW Classic. Single and several targets mean damage for damage specs, healing for healers and threat for tanks; a spec's own guide names its ratings for its role.

  • Feral wants Agility, Strength and hit; Restoration wants +Healing, Intellect and Spirit; Balance wants spell damage and crit.
