How PvP works in Classic Era

Every honorable kill and battleground objective earns Honor. At the weekly reset your week's Honor decides how far you climb the PvP ranks. Ranks unlock officer rewards: tabards, insignia, cloaks, armor sets, battle standards, mounts and, at Rank 14, epic weapons. Rank rewards are bought with gold from the officers' quartermasters in Stormwind and Orgrimmar.

Since patch 1.14.4, ranking no longer compares you with other players: there are no Ranking Points, your Honor is shown after every kill, and taking a break doesn't cost you a rank. The weekly limit is 500,000 Honor; anything above it adds nothing.

Battlegrounds

Warsong Gulch (10 against 10, levels 10–60) is capture the flag. Arathi Basin (15 against 15, levels 20–60) is a race for 2,000 resources from five nodes. Alterac Valley (40 against 40, levels 51–60) is a long battle that ends when a general falls. Each battleground has its own reputation, with rewards from its supply officers.

Dishonorable kills

Killing civilian NPCs counts as a dishonorable kill. Since 1.14.4 that is the only way to lose a rank: a character at the low end of a rank who takes dishonorable kills without enough Honor to offset them can drop.

Frequently asked questions

Is Honor a currency in Classic Era?
No. Honor measures your PvP effort for the week and turns into rank progress at the weekly reset. Rank rewards are bought with gold once you reach the rank they require.
Do I lose my rank if I stop playing PvP?
Not since patch 1.14.4: de-ranking from inactivity was removed. Only dishonorable kills at the low end of a rank can lower it.
How much Honor counts in one week?
Up to 500,000. That reaches the most progress possible in a week; more Honor gives no bonus.
