How the run goes

A defence of Mount Hyjal in the Caverns of Time. At Jaina's Alliance base, eight waves of Scourge and demons come before Rage Winterchill, and eight more before Anetheron. Then Thrall's Horde base: waves before Kaz'rogal and Azgalor. Finally, at the World Tree, Archimonde himself.

Group: Twenty-five players with tanks for each spawn route, interrupts for necromancers, a tank for Anetheron's infernals and Azgalor's doomguards, and Tears of the Goddess for Archimonde.

Map and route

The Alliance base

On the way: Ghouls, crypt fiends, abominations, necromancers and banshees, later gargoyles and frost wyrms. Kill necromancers before their skeletons pile up.

    • Frost ArmorEncases the caster in a layer of frost that lasts 10 sec. The thick ice increases armor by 3000, slows melee attackers' movement to 50%, and increases the time between their attacks by 25%.
    • IceboltFires a bolt of ice at the target, stunning them and causing 4250 to 5750 Frost damage immediately and 10000 Frost damage over 4 sec.
    • Frost NovaInflicts Frost damage to nearby enemies, immobilizing them for up to 10 sec.
    • Death & DecayInvokes the malignant power of death and decay, inflicting Shadow damage to all enemies in a selected area for 15 sec.
    • BerserkIncreases the caster's attack speed by 150% and all damage it deals by 500% for 5 min.

A lich who arrives after the Alliance base's first eight waves. He encases players in Icebolt, which stuns and damages them, drops Death and Decay on groups of players, Frost Novas everyone near him and wears Frost Armor, which slows attackers. He berserks after a time limit.

    Tanks
Hold him in the open middle of the base, away from Jaina's guards and the Alliance buildings, and walk him out of Death and Decay when it lands on you.
    Healers
Move out of Death and Decay the moment it appears, then catch up on the Icebolt targets: frozen players take heavy damage and can't heal themselves.
    Damage dealers
Spread out so Death and Decay catches few players, step out of it before finishing a cast, and keep damage high: the fight is short but ends in a berserk.

    • Inferno Effect
    • Inferno
    • Carrion SwarmA cresting wave of chaotic magic splashes over enemies in front of the caster, dealing 0 Shadow damage and reducing their healing done by 75%.
    • SleepPuts enemies in a small area to sleep for up to 10 sec. Any damage caused will awaken sleeping targets.
    • BerserkIncreases the caster's attack speed by 150% and all damage it deals by 500% for 5 min.

A dreadlord who arrives after the second eight waves. Carrion Swarm hits a cone in front of him and cuts healing taken, Sleep puts several players to sleep at once, Vampiric Aura heals him and his allies from their damage, and Inferno drops an infernal on the raid, stunning everyone where it lands.

    Tanks
Main tank holds Anetheron facing away from the raid so Carrion Swarm only hits the tanks. An off-tank picks up each infernal immediately and drags it away from the healers.
    Healers
Stand spread out so Sleep and Carrion Swarm take as few healers as possible. Whoever is awake covers for slept healers; dispel Sleep if you can.
    Damage dealers
Spread out, stay behind him, and keep damage on Anetheron; only switch to an infernal if the off-tank loses it near the healers.

The Horde base

On the way: The same mix plus fel stalkers and giant infernals; keep the waves away from Thrall.

    • Malevolent CleaveDo damage divided up evenly among all affected targets.
    • War StompInflicts normal damage plus 2250 to nearby enemies, stunning them for 5 sec.
    • CrippleIncreased the time between an enemy's attacks by 75% and its movement by 75%, in addition to reducing its Strength by 75%. Lasts 12 sec.
    • Mark of Kaz'rogalPeriodically drains 600 mana from all enemy targets. Lasts 5 sec. Targets without sufficient mana to drain detonate, dealing 10213 to 11287 damage in an area.

A doom lord who attacks Thrall's base. Mark of Kaz'rogal drains mana from every mana user, and comes more often as the fight goes on; a player who runs out of mana explodes, damaging those around them. He also cleaves, War Stomps and cripples the melee.

    Tanks
Face him away from the raid; Malevolent Cleave hits everything in front of him. Warriors and druids are safe from the mark's mana drain.
    Healers
Manage mana carefully: the marks come faster and faster. When you know you'll run out on the next mark, walk away from the raid so your explosion hurts no one.
    Damage dealers
Mana users low on mana move out before the mark ends. Everyone else maximises damage: the fight is a race against the marks.

    • DoomCurses a target, causing it to die after 20 sec, spawning a Lesser Doomguard.
    • CleaveInflicts weapon damage plus 1750 to an enemy and its nearest allies, affecting up to 5 targets and knocking them back.
    • Rain of FireCalls down a molten rain, burning all enemies in a selected area for 1619 to 1881 Fire damage every 2 sec. for 10 sec.
    • Howl of AzgalorSilences nearby enemies for 5 sec.
    • BerserkIncreases the caster's attack speed by 150% and all damage it deals by 500% for 5 min.

A pit lord at the Horde base. He drops Rain of Fire on the raid, silences everyone with Howl of Azgalor, cleaves, and casts Doom on a player: when it ends, the player dies and a Lesser Doomguard spawns from their body.

    Tanks
Main tank holds Azgalor facing away. An off-tank waits at the agreed spot, away from the raid, to pick up each Lesser Doomguard as it spawns.
    Healers
Move out of Rain of Fire and heal through the silences; the doomed player can't be saved, so spend the mana elsewhere.
    Damage dealers
If you're doomed, walk to the doomguard spot before it lands. Everyone else stays out of the fire and focuses Azgalor.

    • Protection of EluneGrants protection from attacks.
    • Air BurstInflicts 3000 Nature damage to nearby enemies and knocks them high in the air.
    • Hand of DeathInstantly kills all enemies.
    • Grip of the LegionGrip an enemy tightly in the fist of the legion, inflicting 375000 Shadow damage over 5 min.
    • FearStrikes fear into all enemies within 0, causing them to flee in terror for up to 8 sec.
    • Doomfire StrikeCalls down a pillar of flame that moves around randomly, burning everything in its path.
    • Finger of DeathStrikes an enemy with the finger of death, inflicting 20000 shadow damage upon them, their children, and their children's children.
    • Soul ChargeYour soul is captured.

The eredar lord at the World Tree. Air Burst throws a player high into the air: use Tears of the Goddess to float down or die from the fall. Doomfire leaves burning trails that set players alight, he fears the raid, curses with Grip of the Legion, and Finger of Death strikes if no one is in melee. Every player who dies releases a Soul Charge for a deadly spell. At low health, Hand of Death ends the fight.

    Tanks
Hold him in place near the tree; fear protection on the tank (Fear Ward, Berserker Rage, a Tremor Totem) keeps him from wandering through the raid.
    Healers
Decurse Grip of the Legion, heal Doomfire's burn over time, and keep everyone alive: each death powers a Soul Charge that kills more players.
    Damage dealers
Keep Tears of the Goddess ready and use it as you're thrown. Move away from Doomfire trails, keep melee in range and burn him before Hand of Death.

Before you go

  • Assign tanks to the wave spawn routes and interrupt necromancers before their summons accumulate.
  • For Archimonde, collect Tears of the Goddess and practice using them to survive Air Burst.
  • The Vials of Eternity is the original attunement, removed in later progression. It requires Vashj and Kael'thas kills while eligible for the quest.
