Beta dataOld books lie on shelves, tables and in crates all over Azeroth. Pick one up, bring it to a librarian and hand it in: each book is a small quest of its own, and the number of books you have handed in unlocks three rewards, at 10, 20 and 25 books.

How library books work
- 1Find a bookEach book waits in its own container: a shelf, a table, an urn or a crate. Some lie in caves, crypts or high-level camps; the list says where and what to expect.
- 2Hand it inBring it to Garion Wendell in Stormwind City or Owen Thadd in Undercity. The librarian offers that book's quest while you carry it; six books go to one faction's librarian only.
- 3Count unique booksEvery book counts once. A book with several spots (Rumi of Gnomeregan's two inns, say) is still one book: once you have looted one copy, the others are gone for you.
- 4Claim the rewardsAt 10, 20, 25 books the librarian offers a reward quest with a choice of item. The counts are what players report; the game data doesn't list them.

Research the magical arts with the help of a library.
- Study needs a library to cast in. The librarians' libraries are the obvious places; players report that a Mage's first library book turn-in opens Research and Study.
- The game data also has a Library Shelf camp object that turns a camp into a library (“Summon a shelf of books to a campsite, allowing it to function as a library. Requires a Campfire nearby.”). How to get it isn't known yet. Camping guide
- One book, A Luddite's Guide to Caring for Your Demonic Pet, is locked in a cage that opens with a Rusted Cage Key: only Mages can loot the key, from the Lost Ones around Fallow Sanctuary in the Swamp of Sorrows.

- Where do you turn in library books in WoW Forever?
- Alliance characters hand them to Garion Wendell, the librarian in Stormwind City's Mage Quarter tower (49.0, 86.7); Horde characters to Owen Thadd in Undercity's Magic Quarter (73.7, 33.3). Each book is its own quest, offered while the book is in your bags.
- How many library books are there?
- The game files hold 40 books. 39 of them can be collected in WoW Forever; The Liminal and the Arcane isn't in Forever at all. Every book counts once towards the rewards, however many places it can be found.
- What are the rewards for 10, 20 and 25 library books?
- Ten books unlock Friend of the Library, a choice of Scholarly Pendant, Erudite's Amulet. Twenty unlock Greater Friend of the Library, a choice of Field Researcher's Loop, Philanthropist's Ring. Twenty-five unlock a second Greater Friend of the Library: Truthseeker's Bow, Crest of Elucidation, Researcher's Night Light. Each reward is a quest from the librarian.
- Is there a level requirement?
- The book quests have none. The 20-book reward quest needs level 20 and the 25-book one level 35; some books lie in zones for levels 45 to 60.
- Can both factions collect every book?
- No: 6 books go to one faction's librarian only. Alliance: Archmage Antonidas: The Unabridged Autobiography, Archmage Theocritus' Research Journal, Rumi of Gnomeregan: The Collected Works. Horde: The Apothecary's Metaphysical Primer, Ataeric: On Arcane Curiosities, The Lessons of Ta'zo. Both factions can still reach all three rewards.
- What is Study for Mages?
- Study is a Mage spell of the Comprehension skill: it turns one Light Feather into a Bundle of Scrolls of Mage scrolls, takes 6 seconds to cast, has a 1-hour cooldown and needs a library. Players report that a Mage's first library book opens it. Comprehension guide →
- Should I delete a library book I can't hand in yet?
- No. Players report that a deleted book can't be looted again, so keep it in your bags until you can hand it in.
