Classic Era Black Lotus Changes: Faster Spawns and No More Scouting With Eagle Eye or Far Sight
Two 2025 hotfixes changed how Classic Era players find Black Lotus, the herb every flask needs. In February, Blizzard raised its spawn rate in every zone; in October, Eagle Eye and Far Sight stopped showing high-level herbs and ore to characters that can't gather them, ending the use of Hunter and Shaman alts as Lotus scouts.

Why Black Lotus matters
Black Lotus is a reagent in all five Classic flasks: Flask of the Titans, Flask of Supreme Power, Flask of Distilled Wisdom, Flask of Chromatic Resistance and Flask of Petrification. Flasks are among the strongest consumables raiders use, so the herb's supply limits how many flasks a realm can make. The Alchemy recipe list shows every recipe that uses it.
February 2025: Black Lotus spawns faster
On February 13, 2025, Blizzard increased the rate at which Black Lotus spawns in all areas. The change applies to every Classic Era, Anniversary and Hardcore realm, so herbalists on Era realms have found more of it ever since. Blizzard didn't publish the new rate.
A second Black Lotus change on April 8, 2025, which let Black Lotus drop from other high-level herbs at 300 Herbalism, applied to the Anniversary realms only, never to Classic Era. Those realms have since moved on to The Burning Crusade.
October 2025: no more scouting with Eagle Eye or Far Sight
Since October 23, 2025, the Hunter's
Eagle Eye and the Shaman's
Far Sight no longer reveal high-level herbs and mining nodes unless your character has enough skill to gather them. Blizzard's note spells out the target: an alt used as a scout can no longer see Black Lotus until that alt has levelled Herbalism. Dead players already couldn't see such nodes, and the scouting spells now follow the same rule.
Before the change, players could park a Hunter or Shaman alt in a Black Lotus zone and scan for spawns from a distance. Now the scout has to be a herbalist with enough skill to pick the flower, which limits scouting to characters that could gather it anyway. The same rule covers high-level ore for miners.
Other Classic Era fixes from the same weeks
- October 23, 2025: Blizzard fixed several inconsistencies with spells during Naxxramas encounters.
- October 28, 2025: creatures in some low-level areas respawn at their intended rate again, after respawning much more slowly than intended.
What herbalists and alchemists should do
- Scout with your herbalist. Level Herbalism on whichever character watches for Black Lotus; the Herbalism leveling guide covers the route to 300.
- Look for Black Lotus more often. It spawns faster on every Era realm than it did before February 2025.
- Miners: the same skill rule applies to high-level ore seen through Eagle Eye or Far Sight; see Mining.
