WoW Classic Era 1.15.9 Brings Edit Mode, New Nameplates and Raid Frames
Patch 1.15.9 updates the interface of every WoW Classic game, including Classic Era and Hardcore: it adds Edit Mode and updates the nameplates and raid frames with code from modern World of Warcraft. Addons need updates, because the addon API now matches Burning Crusade Classic's 2.5.6.

What 1.15.9 changes
On July 10, 2026, Blizzard announced patch 1.15.9 for Classic Era, Season of Discovery and Hardcore, arriving with each region's weekly maintenance in the week of July 19. It follows Burning Crusade Classic Anniversary's patch 2.5.6 from the week before and brings the same interface changes:
- Edit Mode, for customizing the layout of the interface.
- Nameplate changes.
- Raid frame changes, like the ones 2.5.6 brought to TBC Anniversary.
Blizzard's announcement describes interface changes only. Classic Era's client is now version 1.15.9, and Wowcalc's Classic Era calculator reads its talents and spells from build 1.15.9.70003.
Why Classic's interface keeps changing
Every version of WoW Classic runs on code shared with modern World of Warcraft. That is what gives Classic support for current hardware, widescreen, extra graphics and accessibility options and Battle.net services, and it is also how newer interface pieces reach Classic. WoW Classic launched in 2019 with Battle for Azeroth's raid frames; TBC Anniversary used The War Within's in patch 2.5.5, and patch 2.5.6 moved to Midnight's. Patch 1.15.9 brings similar changes to the Classic games.
Addons need updating
Blizzard warns that some third-party addons may show errors until their authors update them. The addon API in 1.15.9 closely matches the one in 2.5.6, and Blizzard told addon authors to use the TBC 2.5.6 client as the environment for making their addons work with 1.15.9.
If your interface throws errors after the patch, update your addons first, and disable any that haven't been updated for 1.15.9 or 2.5.6.
More options came to TBC first
After 2.5.6, players asked for more control over the new nameplates and raid frames, and on July 17 Blizzard added options for them to Burning Crusade Classic: class-colored nameplates, raid frame colors, dispel highlights and more Edit Mode settings. TBC Anniversary Patch 2.5.6: New Raid Frames and Nameplates, and How to Customize Them lists them, with the chat commands that came first.
Blizzard's update lists these options for Burning Crusade Classic only and doesn't say when Classic Era gets them. It did say it will keep refining the interface to give players more ways to change their settings.
If you're coming back to Classic Era
- Update your addons before you log in, and remove ones that haven't been updated since the patch.
- Set up your layout once in Edit Mode, especially nameplates and raid frames, which look different from before.
- Read the record in Classic Era patch notes, which keeps the announcement with the rest of Classic's history.

Classic Era Black Lotus Changes: Faster Spawns and No More Scouting With Eagle Eye or Far Sight
Two 2025 hotfixes changed how Classic Era players find Black Lotus, the herb every flask needs. In February, Blizzard raised its spawn rate in every zone; in October, Eagle Eye and Far Sight stopped showing high-level herbs and ore to characters that can't gather them, ending the use of Hunter and Shaman alts as Lotus scouts.
