How the run goes

A climb through Arugal's keep: the prison courtyard, the dining hall, the ramparts and towers, and Arugal at the very top. Rethilgore unlocks the prisoners, who open the courtyard door; after that the route goes up and up.

Group: A tank, a healer and three damage dealers around level 25. Bring curse removal for Arugal if you can, and a way to deal with worgen packs that hit hard and come in threes.

Map and route

100%

Through the courtyard past Rethilgore, into the kitchen and dining hall for Razorclaw and Baron Silverlaine, Commander Springvale in the chapel and Odo on the way out. Up along the wall walk to the observatory for Fenrus, then Wolf Master Nandos and Archmage Arugal at the top.

    • Soul DrainImmobilizes an enemy for 10 sec. and drains 35 health, transferring it to the caster.

A worgen jailer who drains health with Soul Drain. Killing him lets you free the prisoners, who open the courtyard door.

    Tanks
Hold him in the cell block away from other worgen.
    Healers
Soul Drain takes health from the tank and heals him: keep healing steady.
    Damage dealers
Kill him quickly before his drain swings the fight.

The dining hall

On the way: Ghouls and worgen around the kitchen. Silverlaine's hall has spectral guards: clear them before the baron.

    • Butcher Drain

A worgen butcher who hits hard and drains the tank's health with Butcher Drain.

    Tanks
Clear the kitchen first, then hold him; use a cooldown if his damage spikes.
    Healers
His damage is steady melee. Heal through the drain.
    Damage dealers
Burn him down with your strongest damage: once the kitchen is clear, there are no adds to worry about.

    • Veil of ShadowReduces healing effects for an enemy by 75% for 15 sec.

A ghostly baron who casts Veil of Shadow, which cuts the healing his target receives.

    Tanks
Hold him in place; Veil of Shadow on you means heals do less.
    Healers
Dispel Veil of Shadow (it's a curse) rather than heal through it. Without curse removal, heal early.
    Damage dealers
Kill him quickly; remove Veil of Shadow from the tank if you can, as it cuts the healing they receive.

The ramparts and towers

On the way: Bat packs on the ramparts and worgen on the stairs. Narrow stairs make it easy to lose sight of your healer.

    • Holy LightHeals a friendly target for 310 to 356.

A fallen paladin with guards who stuns with Hammer of Justice and heals himself with Holy Light.

    Tanks
Pull him and his guards together and keep them all on you.
    Healers
Hammer of Justice stuns the tank; top them up before it lands.
    Damage dealers
Interrupt Holy Light every time, and kill or control his guards first.

    • Howling Rage

A worgen on the ramparts who flies into Howling Rage, hitting harder as he gets hurt.

    Tanks
Clear the bats first and save cooldowns for his rage at low health.
    Healers
Damage on the tank climbs as the fight goes on; watch it near the end.
    Damage dealers
Burn him fast at the end: his rage grows as his health drops, so a short fight keeps the tank safe.

    • HamstringInflicts weapon damage plus 1 to an enemy, reducing its movement speed by 60% for 10 sec.

A rare undead captain who slows with Hamstring and hits hard for his level.

    Tanks
Hold him in place: he's a plain melee fight with no surprises, but he hits hard for his level.
    Healers
Steady melee damage on the tank, slowed further by Hamstring on melee players.
    Damage dealers
Kill him if he's up; he drops good gear for the level.

    • Toxic SalivaInflicts 17 Nature damage to an enemy every 6 sec. Also drains 20 mana every 6 sec., transferring it to the caster. Lasts 2 min.

A giant wolf who spits Toxic Saliva, a poison on the tank. His death triggers Arugal's voice and brings Wolf Master Nandos.

    Tanks
Hold him in the room and stay ready: the next fight follows soon after.
    Healers
Remove poison if you can. Keep mana for the event after his death.
    Damage dealers
Kill him and stay together afterwards: Wolf Master Nandos and his wolves come next.

Arugal's wolf master, who calls worgen companions to fight with him.

    Tanks
Pick up every worgen he calls and keep them off the healer.
    Healers
Damage rises with each wolf; heal the tank and anyone a wolf reaches.
    Damage dealers
Kill the wolves as they appear, gathered on the tank for area damage, then turn to Nandos himself.

    • Void BoltSends a bolt of dark magic at an enemy, inflicting 255 to 295 Shadow damage.
    • ThundershockInflicts 64 to 86 Nature damage to nearby enemies, stunning them for 5 sec.
    • Arugal's CurseTransforms an enemy into a Shadowfang Glutton, enslaving it to the caster's will for 10 sec.

The final boss. He teleports around his chamber, casts Void Bolt and Thundershock, and curses players with Arugal's Curse, which turns them into worgen.

    Tanks
You can't hold him in one place: he teleports. Stay near the group and let the damage dealers chase.
    Healers
Remove his curse quickly. Use the pillars to hide from Void Bolt when he's out of reach.
    Damage dealers
Interrupt Void Bolt and hit him whenever he lands. Ranged damage is best.

Before you go

  • Bring curse removal for the later sections, especially Arugal.
  • Pull carefully on stairs and balconies; cramped sight lines can separate the healer from the tank.
  • No key or attunement. Speak to a rescued prisoner after Rethilgore to progress past the courtyard door.
