Three dungeons in the Frozen Halls
Tirion Fordring's Argent Crusade and Darion Mograine's Knights of the Ebon Blade join forces as the Ashen Verdict to storm Icecrown Citadel. The assault begins in three five-player dungeons: The Forge of Souls, Pit of Saron and Halls of Reflection, all at level 80 in Icecrown.
Defense Protocol Gamma is the third Titan Rune mode. An agent of the Argent Tournament offers each player a choice of helpful buffs inside the dungeon, and every boss drops a Defiler's Scourgestone. The currency buys item level 245 rewards from 25-player Trial of the Crusader at Korralin Hoperender (Alliance) or Kolara Dreamsmasher (Horde) in Dalaran.
Icecrown Citadel
Icecrown Citadel opened on October 12 with twelve encounters across five wings, from Lord Marrowgar to the Lich King himself, in Normal and Heroic modes for 10 and 25 players. The patch notes say every boss was unlocked from the start and Heroic allowed 50 attempts per week, unlike the original 2009 release, which opened its wings gradually.
The Shadowmourne legendary quest chain became available to Death Knights, Paladins and Warriors, and the patch notes add that its Shadowfrost Shards drop more reliably than in the original release.
Dungeon Finder, quest tracking and collections
- The Random Dungeon Finder queues for Normal, Heroic and each Defense Protocol dungeon.
- A quest log option shows quest objectives on the map; it can be switched off with the map's Show Quest Objectives box.
- A Collections window gathers pets, mounts and heirlooms, many of them account-wide.
The Dungeon Finder changed leveling as much as endgame: groups for Northrend's dungeons formed in minutes, which made the dungeon guides useful long before level 80. The 3.4.3 patch notes list the class changes that came with the update.
