How the run goes
Illidan's fortress in Shadowmoon Valley: nine bosses. High Warlord Naj'entus and Supremus open the temple; Akama's shade frees the way into the sanctuary; Teron Gorefiend, Gurtogg Bloodboil and the Reliquary of Souls lie in its halls; Mother Shahraz and the Illidari Council guard the temple summit; and Illidan waits at the top.
Group: Twenty-five players with specialist roles: spine catchers for Naj'entus, kiters for Supremus, a shadow-resistance plan for Shahraz, four tanks for the Council and fire-resistant tanks for Illidan's flames.
Map and route
Naj'entus in the Karabor Sewers and Supremus in the training grounds, then Akama's sanctuary, Teron Gorefiend, Gurtogg Bloodboil and the Reliquary of Souls, and the temple summit for Mother Shahraz, the Illidari Council and Illidan.

Tidal ShieldProtects the caster from most attacks and spells. In addition, the caster regenerates health.
Hurl SpineHurls the Impaling Spine back at Naj'entus, dealing damage. Pierces Tidal Shield.
Tidal BurstDeals massive damage to enemies.
BerserkIncreases the caster's attack speed by 150% and all damage it deals by 500% for 5 min.
Impaling SpineFires a massive spine, impaling the target.
A naga warlord at the temple's water. He hurls Impaling Spines into players, pinning them until another player pulls the spine out, and Needle Spine damages anyone standing close to its target. Every so often Tidal Shield makes him immune: throw a spine at him to break it, which sets off Tidal Burst on the whole raid.
- Tanks
- Hold him in place; he rarely spines the tank. Keep your health high for Tidal Burst.
- Healers
- Spread out so Needle Spine hits few players; heal impaled players, and top everyone up before the shield is broken.
- Damage dealers
- Free impaled players to collect their spines. When Tidal Shield goes up, wait until the raid is healthy, then throw a spine to break it.

Volcanic EruptionSummons a volcanic eruption to harm nearby enemies.
An abyssal giant who alternates every minute. In the tank phase he's tanked normally and Hurtful Strike hits the second-highest-threat melee player. In the kite phase he fixes on a random player and chases them while Volcanic Eruptions burst across the room and Molten Flame trails behind him.
- Tank phase: the main tank holds him; off-tanks stand in melee high on threat to soak Hurtful Strike.
- Kite phase: his target runs around the room; everyone avoids the volcanoes and his trail.
- Tanks
- Off-tanks stay second on threat in melee to soak Hurtful Strike. In the kite phase, pick him back up quickly when it ends.
- Healers
- Avoid the volcanoes and his molten flame trail, heal the kiter, and keep the Hurtful Strike soakers topped up.
- Damage dealers
- Melee must not climb to second on threat. In the kite phase, stay away from volcanoes and from the player he's chasing.

Akama's shade is bound by six Ashtongue Channelers. Waves of Ashtongue defenders, elementalists, rogues and spiritbinders pour in from both side doors, and sorcerers come to replace dead channelers. With the channelers dead, Akama fights the shade; protect him and kill it.
- Tanks
- Tanks hold each side door, picking up the defenders and rogues as they come.
- Healers
- Split healers between the two sides; once the shade is free, keep Akama alive as it attacks him.
- Damage dealers
- Kill the channelers, then the sorcerers before they reach the shade; when the shade fights, everyone on it.

The ghost uses its abilities to slow and destroy the constructs. Teron also casts Incinerate on players and Crushing Shadows on several at once.
- Tanks
- Hold Teron in the middle of his room, facing away, so the constructs have far to walk to the raid.
- Healers
- Dispel Incinerate and heal Crushing Shadows' five targets. Ghosts return to life after the phase: rez them if needed.
- Damage dealers
- When you become a ghost, use your ghost abilities (lance, chains, volley, shield) to kill the constructs before they reach anyone.

Aura of Suffering
Enrage
Soul Drain
Aura of Desire
Spirit Shock
Rune Shield
Deaden
Aura of Anger
Three essences rise one after another. Suffering stops all healing, fixates on whoever is closest and drains souls. Desire reflects part of the damage dealt to it, drains mana and casts Rune Shield and Deaden. Anger grows stronger the longer it lives and Seethes when it changes target. Enslaved souls rise between essences.
- Suffering: no healing works; tanks take turns being closest to absorb its fixate.
- Desire: interrupt Spirit Shock and Deaden, dispel or steal Rune Shield.
- Anger: tank it without threat swaps and burn it before its damage grows too high.
- Tanks
- Take turns standing closest to Suffering. On Anger, hold threat firmly so it never Seethes.
- Healers
- Nothing heals during Suffering: bandages and healthstones only. Heal hard through Desire and Anger.
- Damage dealers
- Kill the enslaved souls between essences, interrupt Desire's casts, and burn Anger quickly.

Silencing ShriekA shout of command that silences all nearby enemies for 10 sec.
A shivarra. Fatal Attraction teleports three players together: they take damage until they move apart. Silencing Shriek silences the raid, Saber Lash is shared among players near the tank, and she fires random beams of every school; her Prismatic Shield changes which she resists. Most raids wear shadow resistance.
- Tanks
- Three tanks stack together to share Saber Lash, each with high health.
- Healers
- Heal the Fatal Attraction targets as they split up; heal through the beams and silences.
- Damage dealers
- If attracted, run away from the other two immediately. Shadow resistance gear keeps you alive.

Flame Crash
Summon Tear of Azzinoth
Shadow Blast
Throw Glaive
Glaive Returns
Shadow Prison
Enrage
Summon Shadow Demons
Illidan in several phases. On the ground he Shears the tank and plants Parasitic Shadowfiends on players. In the air he throws his glaives, two Flames of Azzinoth rise, and Eye Blast sweeps the ground. Later he takes demon form at range, summoning Shadow Demons. At the end, Maiev arrives with Cage Traps.
- Ground: tanks swap on Shear; kill Parasitic Shadowfiends that emerge; move out of Flame Crash.
- Air: fire-resistant tanks hold the two Flames of Azzinoth apart from each other and the glaives; avoid Eye Blast and Dark Barrage.
- Ground and demon form: in demon form, spread for Shadow Blast and kill the Shadow Demons before they reach their targets.
- Maiev: she traps him with Cage Traps; finish him.
- Tanks
- Two main tanks swap on Shear; two fire-resistant tanks take the Flames of Azzinoth.
- Healers
- Heal parasite targets and spread in demon form; Eye Blast and flame fire mean constant movement.
- Damage dealers
- Kill shadowfiends and Shadow Demons fast, avoid Eye Blast, and burn him while Maiev's traps hold him.
Before you go
- Assign spine handling before Naj'entus and specialist tank roles before Illidan.
- Plan cooldowns and healing targets for Bloodboil and Reliquary rather than treating them as ordinary tank fights.
- The Medallion of Karabor chain was the original attunement and is removed in later progression. Prepare shadow resistance for Mother Shahraz and appropriate fire resistance for Illidan's flame tanks.
